After one full mental meltdown and questioning all of my choices over the past year I’ve decided to choose happiness and joy…whatever that looks like! After a 6-day weekend thanks to Milton…it’s time to put in some WORK! 
Model the behavior you want to see in these kids! 
I normally workout by myself as I like to get in and get out but I was happy to sacrifice this Monday workout to get these kids moving. The weather was beautiful so we had no excuses! They complained the whole time but in the end I actually got a “thank you” ☺️

How many times can you remember working out with your parents?? For most people that’s zero…I remember going to the gym with my dad, him attempting to teach me racquetball..me screaming in pure terror as that ball came flying past my head LOL Even if I didn’t play racquetball and ended up on a treadmill or taking a class, that was still time we had TOGETHER.

Let’s change the narrative for our kids and show them what they should be prioritizing for overall health and wellness.

When you are determined, amazing things can happen. This young lady was ready for a change and this is ONLY the beginning. It wasn’t always easy, but she took advice, followed my STRUCTURED program including personalized workouts and nutritional guidance and she is down over TWENTY-FIVE pounds since we started in June. 
What she didn’t do- 
Follow some willy nilly workout plan, simply eat “healthy”, make excuses, become a dooms-day fortune teller (“I’ll never lose the weight, etc), obsess over an unrealistic timeline, or most importantly….GIVE UP. 

Slow and steady weight loss is SUSTAINABLE weight loss. She is learning how to have a healthy relationship with food and falling in love with the process! I wish I could show you her bikini pics but I can’t blur her face out enough!! This is why I do what I do.

Let’s talk about managing stress and I ask “are you putting in D+ effort expecting A+ results??? Let’s talk about it
Ladies!! “Eating healthy” is NOT a weight loss plan!! Yes you should be prioritizing whole-food plant based food items over processed, calorie dense foods but eating healthy tells me nothing about whether you are in a calorie deficit. Therefore you must TRACK your food intake to ensure you are in a calorie deficit for weight loss. If you are not tracking your food you are doing yourself a huge disservice! And while we are at it-

1. Prioritize protein intake! Aim to hit your protein goals daily 
2. Prioritize whole-food plant based items. Half of your plate should be from the ground, 1/3 lean protein and 1/3 a whole grain/carb of your choice. 
3. Tastes, licks and condiments count!! Track everything so you get as accurate a count as you can on your macros. 
You cannot GUESS your way to your dream body. Be intentional about your goals.

Friends!! Believe it or not these basic moves serve as the foundation for any strength training workout. If you are just starting out you dont needs to do any complicated burpees or weird lunges…start with the basics and build from theres. These are exercises I do on a regular (along with a couple of other advanced moves)..I just usually have 25s-30s in my hand 😜!! 

You can do these for reps like on the video or you can pick 5 and do for time(45s on & 15s rest) for as many rounds as possible. JUST DO SOMETHING!

Stay tuned for some basic moves you can do ON YOUR OWN. Start out with bodyweight if you need to and then gradually add on with progressive load. 

If you need to lose weight because your BMI is too high you can still do these moves but make sure you are in a calorie deficit. If you are wanting to LOOK different then it’s calorie maintenance for you or a surplus to build lean muscle...it’s not those 5lbs you’ve been obsessing over. Not sure which category you are in? REALLY??! 🙄 It’s not that my services are too expensive, it’s just that your health is not your priority. As with all things in life we prioritize what’s important to us. Unfortunately our health is usually not high on the list. Most people would rather spin their wheels on the yo-yo track trying to figure it out on their own vs INVESTING in themselves to get some guidance for long-term success.

Lets get into this upper body workout friends!! Here are some classic upper body moves (the basics are tried and true) and finish off with 10-15 mins of interval training. This step is important for FAT BURNING! Standing and curling dumbbells is great for muscles not very effective for fat burning. Interval training can be anything that you do with short intense bursts of energy for example:
40s of burpess + 20 secs walking in place

30s sprint on sidewalk 1min powerwalk 

40s jump squats + 20s deadbugs 
Repeat for a total of 10-15 mins!

LADIES!! Let me say this for the people in the back! Restrictive diets, 900 calorie diets, eating like a rabbit and killing yourself on a treadmill is NOT IT! If you enjoy a good yo-yo then go for it, but if you want to nip this in the bud once and for all then gather round! 

1. Protein is essential for you to sculpt out the body you want. Aiming for 30g each meal is a great start. Protein is the building block for muscle..and lean muscles boost metabolism and helps you burn more calories at REST!! 

2. Ok I’m going to say this once more…restrictive diets are NOT SUSTAINABLE! Do not incorporate any habits that you can’t see yourself doing for the rest of your life! Yes cutting out all sugar and bread will help you lose weight but what do you think is going to happen when you decide to introduce it back into your diet??! We have to learn to have healthy relationships with food. 

3. Long gone are the days where you hit the treadmill for 30 mins 6 days a week at full speed to maintain that youthful glow. In comes strength training; start with body weight and then add on those dumbbells. The body you want will NOT be built on a treadmill at 40+. In addition, HIIT workouts/boot camps can be very taxing on the body as well as lead to physical stress and cortisol release and well you know the rest 🤦🏽‍♀️PICK UP THE WEIGHTS and HIIT only 1-2 times a week. 

4. Sleep is critical! Lack of sleep has been shown to lead to overeating and increased risk of diabetes amongst other chronic diseases. 4 hours of sleep is not a badge of honor. Ladies go to bed please!!

Ladies!! Its time to pick up those weights and smooth out that back! Here’s a back focused and deep core upper body workout for you! Complete 10-12 reps of each exercise with a challenging weight for 3-4 sets. These are large muscles so you can lift more than you think…with good form of course!! 

Deep core exercises are great for my mommas with diastasis recti to help strengthen those lax muscles.
Finish this off woth 10-15 mins of interval training. You dont need any fancy equipment your body will do just fine! Here are some examples:
-march in place for 1 min and then 30 sec of burpees OR 
-jump rope for 1 min then 30 sec sprint 
Alternate for 10-15 mins then you are done!! This part is really important for fat burning!

*for toe taps complete 20 seconds and then hold leg extension for 20 seconds

Getting a high quality workout in doesn’t have to equate to doing a bunch of random exercises every week. Pick some key exercises and stick to them week after week focusing on progressive load and good form. These are some of the main exercises I’ve been doing (with some slight variations) for the past several YEARS. The only difference is I started with 5 & 10lb weights and now I’m using 20lbs+! 

Exercises with dumbbells- for “toning” complete 10-12 reps with moderate weight for 3-4 rounds

For true bulking complete 6-8 reps with heavy weight for 3-4 rounds. 

The last two exercises are your burnouts! Complete 45s of work with 15s rest for 3 rounds PER EXERCISE.
